SAPD body cam shows suspect firing off his weapon is fatally shot with one bullet from an officer

The San Antonio Police Department on Wednesday released officer body camera footage from two separate police shootings in late March, one of which was deadly.

That fatal incident unfolded on the afternoon of March 28 on the east side, when officers responded to the area of Essex and Mesquite after reports of a shooting at a nearby carwash, according to SAPD officials. The newly released video shows a responding officer locating the suspect, 34-year-old Paul Palafox, down the street in a residential area.

The officer is outside his patrol car for less than a minute before rifle shots allegedly fired by Palofax can be heard, sending the officer scrambling for cover.

"Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't. Let me see your hands!" the officer can be heard saying before the gunfire begins.

An SAPD spokesperson narrating the footage said Palofax fired "more than two dozen rounds," allegedly firing additional shots later as more officers arrived.

Drone footage also captured and released by SAPD shows a man with a rifle pacing around outside the home, using two vehicles as cover.

Body camera footage captured by a different officer at the scene shows him firing a single round at Palofax 12 minutes after Palofax initially fired at law enforcement, hitting him. Authorities said he was subsequently hospitalized and eventually died on March 31.

No one else was injured in the incident.
