Montana GOP Silences Transgender Lawmaker On House Floor

Montana Republican lawmakers have silenced transgender lawmaker Zooey Zephyr on the House floor, and she is now at risk of official censure and potential expulsion.

Zephyr, the only transgender lawmaker in the Montana Legislature, was prevented from speaking on the floor after she made comments about anti-trans legislation going through the House. Republicans have accused her of making "inflammatory" and "unacceptable" remarks.

Zephyr's supporters have gathered in the Montana Statehouse to protest her silencing. Police were brought in to disperse them.

The silencing of Zephyr is a clear example of the discrimination and harassment that transgender people face in the United States. It is also a sign of the increasingly hostile political climate for transgender people.
