NUCLEAR RELICS – BUNKERS FOUND - Appalachia in the QUEHANNA WILDERNESS and the PA WILDS

There is an amazing piece of secretive history nestled in the Quehanna Wilderness part of Appalachia that runs through North Central Pennsylvania. Well worth a trip to see!

We live in North Central Pennsylvania and love to go and explore Appalachia and the Pa Wilds. Today we took our 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ to visit some old nuclear relics from days gone by.

The United States Air Force wanted to produce Nuclear Powered Aircraft and looked for an ideal place to experiment. The area now called the “Quehanna Wilderness” was the area selected and they acquired 80 square miles for the project.

They build several sites to test the engines, and they built two bunkers strong enough to survive a nuclear blast if needed! These relics remain to this day!
