The concept of a sign receiving a planet and the result is escaping many classmates.

The planets are moving objects circling around the Sun in their orbits - much like the Moon travels around the Earth. As time passes, the planets traveling around the Sun travel through the zodiac and appear to pass through different signs. This planetary passage through a sign is called a transit. The sign being stationary, is, therefore, receiving the planet as it enters into the new sign.

In turn, each sign has a significant quality consisting of Fire, Earth, Air or Water that may or may not be friendly to the planet when in transit to a particular sign of an element different from the planet's element. As each planet has a quality (such as Sun, Mars & Jupiter with fire) so it stands to reason that planets associated with fire while in transit through a water or earth sign would be at a significant disadvantage.
