The Montana State House voted on Wednesday to bar Representative Zooey Zephyr, the state’s first transgender lawmaker, from the House floor for the remainder of the 2023 legislative session. Last Tuesday, Rep. Zephyr warned state lawmakers they would “have blood on their hands” if they supported a state bill that would ban gender-affirming care for minors; the incident led to protests in the State chambers. The Office of the Speaker of the House issued a statement Monday condemning the “far-left agitators” riot that endangered legislators and staff. Rep. Zephyr will still be allowed to vote remotely on state legislation.
