Mr. MacMillan was in the midst of a 31-day tour of Africa during which time he and his wife Lady Dorothy visited the cities of Kaduna and Zaria.
On the itinerary was a textile factory and a school in Kaduna and in Zaria, palace of the Emir where Lady Dorothy visited the women's quarters, the Palace's Harem. In Zaria, both were treated to a display of horsemanship.
During his visit, MacMillan spoke to a range of Nigerian political figures and the Governor-General about Nigerian independence scheduled for October of that year.
