The Leshan Giant Buddha is the largest stone Buddha statue in the world, carved out of a cliff face in Sichuan province, China. It was built between 713 and 803 during the Tang dynasty by a Buddhist monk named Hai Tong and his disciples. It faces Mount Emei and overlooks the confluence of three rivers. It is part of the Mount Emei Scenic Area, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
