VO2 max day

Hello everyone,
Today was VO2 max day to test my aerobic capacity. It was a good opportunity to for the old man to assess how the training is going so far. My friend, Dr. Riddell was kind enough to take me to his lab and conduct the test. I used the K5 wearable metabolic system. The test started with basal measurements with me seating and relaxed and then I got on the treadmill. I did 2 min of warmup followed by progressive increments in intensity. The protocol maintained the speed relatively constant and increased the inclination at 2 min intervals. In the end I was running at 8% inclination and 8.2 miles per hour. The test lasted approximately 12 min and in the end I was exhausted. The maximum HR was 178 bpm and the peak VO2 reached was 62.7 ml/kg/min, but I could hold it just for a few seconds. The 8% inclination was very taxing and my breathing rate went from 20 breaths per min (bpm) during the warmup to 49 bpm at the end of the test. The mask was a little uncomfortable and forced me to breath hard. It was a tough test, but very good to get a direct measurement of my VO2 max. I always relied on my estimated value that the Garmin Forerunner 945 gave me. I will have more on the details of the test and a thorough comparison with my Garmin values as soon as I have a chance to go through the data. This is it for now and I’ll see you in the next.
