Louis Berry - Caledonia
As many of you probably already know, I have always had and felt a strong connection, not only genetically and culturally, but also emotionally with the Celtic nations of these Islands. Being from Liverpool with a strong cultural connection to these lands and also being a port city that has always looked outwards to sea and distant lands, I recognised in Glasgow where I have many good friends, how these people too were shaped by adventure, discovery, exploration and hardwork. This shows in the strength of character and the sense of humour of not only the Glaswegian people but the Scottish nation as a whole. In spring time this year, whilst visiting Glasgow I stood on the banks of the river Clyde and looked out and wondered how many souls set sail from these shores, with no guarantees of life or prosperity armed only with hope, strong will and determination for a better future, never to set foot on these shores again. I wrote this song about these people. I relate this to the people of my own city and knowing Scotland already has a beautiful song called Caledonia, rather than emulate, as an artist it is my duty to create. Here is my Caledonia. Thank you for listening.
