Harnwell: The West has been underestimating China for decades — they’re playing a very subtle game

The Chinese ambassador to France just suggested the baltic states don’t have internationally-recognised sovereignty.

This might not be what it first seems — an expression of China’s ironclad alliance with Russia. Russia’s seat as a UN security council permanent member was inherited from the old USSR — so has about the same degree of “validity” as the baltic states. Is China discreetly throwing Russia under the bus?
