California researchers train dogs to sniff out Covid-19 in schools

Researchers sponsored by the California Department of Public Health have trained dogs to sniff out volatile organic compounds associated with Covid-19 infections, according to a study published in JAMA Pediatrics Monday. The researchers report the two Labrador retrievers used for the screening accurately alerted their handlers to 85 infections while ruling out 3,400 infections, resulting in a 90% accuracy rate.
