How to Get Rid of Self Harm SI Scars | Replace #selfharm with #ART
Many young people cut, burn, scratch, and abuse themselves as a coping mechanism to either punish themselves or to feel something to fill an emptiness and numbness inside.
These behaviors are normally caused by the intended or unintended emotional neglect of the child by the parents, or an absent parent that is neglectful, one or both parents may be working too much, or on their electronics, and not hearing the young person.
Other reasons can be not letting the young person make decisions about their own lives and bodies, being overly protective and not letting the young person grow, and/or being to strict and critical, especially about grades and school. It is usually a combination of some of the above.
Mild Autism Spectrum and/or a sensitive creative intuitive child can be even more susceptible to heavy emotions and self harm.
Contributing factors are also sexual assault of some sort, that usually the parent is unaware of.
Seek professional help to find out which combination of these are effecting your child and family, then work on ALL members of that family in a regular theraputic setting.
