Important thing to note, is Chick peas/garbanzo beans (same thing) contain POLYUNSATURATED FATTY ACIDS (PUFA). The (Correlational) data shows the mass consumption of these in the 20th C. was apparently more unhealthy than processed sugar.

Additionally, chickpea has a HIGH RATIO OF OMEGA 6s (linoleic acid) to OMEGA 3s. It's not as concentrated as it is in a seed oil so there's that caveat. Soybean the alternative is also PUFA, not sure about the omega ratio, and rumored to suppress testosterone.
So chickpea may be better than soy but it's still something to keep in moderation.
