Wat Aranyikawat is a royal temple belonging to the Dhammayut Sect, located outside the walls of Ratchaburi to the northwest in the plains of Thung Khao. It was once a battlefield between the Burmese army and the armies of Ayutthaya.

The focus of the temple is a large prang and a small prang with 4 corners. The Prang is situated 40 meters behind the ordination hall. A reclining Buddha image made of red stone reclining on the right side. The reclining Buddha image was built in AD 1530-2035 with a length of 30 meters. Inside of the reclining Buddha is a sandstone figure from the Ayutthaya periodi. There are 41 red stone Buddha images in the Lopburi period at the temple to see.

The temple also has two round bell shaped chedis in front of the ordination hall. These chedis are in the style from Sri Lanka.

The old ubosot was built in 1895. Inside the old ordination hall is a Buddha image holding a gilded stucco, it is assumed that inside this Buddha image, there is a red stone Buddha image in the Lopburi period.

There is a large pond behind the reclining Buddha image. The rectangular pool is an ancient public pool that is assumed to have been built in the Ayutthaya period.

The temple is small but recently restored by the fine arts department. It’s worth 20 to 30 minutes of your time to see the prang and the reclining Buddha.
