Grappling is an important part of the Kyokushin body of knowledge and as time passes more and more Kyokushin dojos and students are looking beyond the full contact tournaments.

In a nutshell, BJJ consists of eight fundamental positions. Build your skills around those eight positions, starting with survival and defence. More on that in another video.

The mount is the best known of those eight positions amongst non-grapplers, simply because its dominance in MMA is often seen. This video shows you how to begin developing stability in the mount, along with a smother finish. There are numerous approaches to the smother but this one, courtesy of Mr John Danaher, is very strong. It also lends itself to a very strong kata-gatame which I'll show in the next video.
