This was one of the most political songs to ever come out of Motown and it came out in 1970 at the height of the "Psychedelic Soul" movement and the Vietnam War. Written by Temptation's producer Norman Whitfield and his lyricist Barrett Strong, the song's lyrics touched on many themes of societal disintegration at the time that are very familiar today.

In fact, Bob Dylan, in his 2022 book "The Philosophy of Modern Song,: said that, "This song is just as relevant today as the day it was written." I recently purchased Bob's excellent book in which he profiles 66 songs and reading it gave me the idea to react to this Golden Oldie!
