Insect powders authorized in food in EU in 2023

This video details the European regulation authorizing the use of three types of insect powders for food preparation and promotes my petition for a clear labeling of these insect powders on the list of ingredients, as well as their removal from plant-based products such as cereal flours.

Petition for mandatory labeling of insect powders in food

According to a European regulation, insect powders can now be legally added to food preparations without any obligation of labeling these ingredients on the packaging of the products, which represent 30% of food preparations available on the market.

There is a serious risk for human health, which was not considered so far unfortunately. Many consumers care about the ingredients and the quality of the food they eat, and do not want to eat insects for various reasons. This new regulation puts at risk vegan, vegetarian and allergic people, who really need to make sure that plant-based products DO NOT contain ingredients derived from animal sources or insects. Moreover, religious people from monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianism, Islam) are not allowed to eat insects.

Thus, we clearly ask for a mandatory labeling of the products containing insect powders and we also urgently ask for the removal of these insect powders from vegan and vegetarian food preparations. We finally ask for transparency about the protagonists of this regulation.
