This is the dramatic moment a woman gets airlifted via a UK Coastguard helicopter after she fell and injured her ankle while hiking with a friend.

Footage obtained by Newsflash shows the moment the hiker - identified as Cari Ormerod, 47 - gets pulled up onto the chopper.

Cari's ordeal reportedly began after she headed towards the village of Pendine, Wales, with a friend, when she fell and broke her ankle during a walk near Marros Beach, Carmarthenshire coast, on 25th March.

Having realised that she could not move, she then called the HM Coastguard for help.

Rescue teams from the town of Tenby and the village of Llansteffan and the Coastguard helicopter from the village of St Athan were quickly sent to the scene.

Cari said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: "It was really scary, I just knew straight away my ankle was broken. I went into a hole where it twisted and then I heard it crack.

"I knew we were miles from the road, from anywhere, but there was no way I could walk."

Cari was later transferred from the helicopter onto an ambulance and taken to hospital.

She added: "All I felt was relief, the teams take over and you can just relax. You feel safe when you see and hear them.

"There was no way I could get down to the beach so the helicopter was called and within no time it had arrived. I was so scared but I had no choice.

"I'm so grateful we were directed to the Coastguard, we didn't know who to go to. Words cannot express how grateful I am."
