SUMMITING BROUGHT BACK THE HOPE | High Mountain Park
Hey guys, welcome to another episode of our hiking adventures! Today, we're going to show you one of our favorite trails in **High Mountain Park Preserve**, a hidden gem in New Jersey. This park has some of the best views of the city, the countryside, and the water, and it's also home to some amazing wildlife and flora. You'll see us hike up to the summit, explore the woods, and enjoy the lake. If you're looking for a challenging and rewarding hike near the city, this is the one for you!
**High Mountain Park Preserve** is a 1,260-acre natural area located in Wayne and North Haledon. It features over 12 miles of trails for hiking and biking, ranging from easy to moderate in difficulty. The park is also part of the **New York-New Jersey Highlands**, a region of hills and valleys that stretches from Connecticut to Pennsylvania.
The main trail we're going to hike today is the **High Mountain Summit Loop**, which is 4.7 miles long with an elevation gain of 682 feet. This trail offers a stunning view of New York City on a clear day from the top of High Mountain, which is 885 feet above sea level. The trail also passes by a small waterfall and a lake, where you can see some birds and fish. The trail is marked with red and yellow blazes, but some sections are not well marked, so make sure to download the map ahead of time or use a GPS device.
To get to the trailhead, you need to drive to **Wayne** and park at the end of **College Road**, near William Paterson University. There is a small parking lot with a kiosk that has a map and some information about the park. The trail starts at the kiosk and follows the red blazes uphill. You can also find more directions and public transportation options on the **New York-New Jersey Trail Conference website**.
