Let's consult my chicken journal... keep in mind weather, cold and heat, along with stress of animal attacks will all determine your egg production. along with the age of your chickens. We do not keep any chicken past the age of 3 years. simply because the third year they become freeloaders. so on average our hens are 2 years old. Yes we add and take away every year!! changing the food did seem to help. although we changed during the time of year they tend to start laying. We used to feed them Albers feed and that was miserable. we switched and found success with Purina layena.. although now we are back to beaver brand and finding better success.
