Thoughts On Pursuing Pressure On The Governor General

Can the NZ Governor General dissolve Parliament? Well yes, but the question is will she exercise said powers? We think not.

Facts to consider are that the Ggovernor General is employed with a package that appears worth well over 2 million for five years work. The Governor General is an appointed position, not an elected position. She receives an annual salary of $NZ$371,900, unlimited travel and three houses.

She is paid by the government. Her husband is a doctor that subscribes to the mainstream view and she is known to be very friendly with the Prime Minister.
Yes the GG has the power to dissolve Parliament but this has never happened in NZ and there is nothing to suggest that she would use this power at this time given the aforementioned facts.

The two times this has occurred in Australia were very specific fact situations including where government had lost the majority required to maintain power in the Parliament. This is not the case in NZ.

VFF does not focus on the GG pressure because we consider there are other efforts which are able to achieve more. We're not against people standing outside her homes we just don't think it's going to acheive the desired outcome.
