Thousands of astronomy fans from around the world gathered in rural Exmouth, Australia Thursday to experience the full view of a rare hybrid solar eclipse. A hybrid solar eclipse is a combination of an annular and total solar eclipse, occurring only a handful of times per century. While partial eclipses were visible in other parts of the Asia-Pacific, Exmouth was the only location where the sky turned completely black and the temperature dropped nine degrees. Footage captured by an onlooker shows the hybrid eclipse in its totality, with birds heard chirping wildly in the background. Credit: Joy Daniels via Storyful
