Dr Shawn Baker podcast

Fear that eating red meat, having
saturated fat, will cause cholesterol
levels to rise...
"There is NO KNOWN MECHANISM
for saturated fat to increase blood
cholesterol"
Main factor that lowers cholesterol:
-phytosterols [fake cholesterol]
-very SIMILAR to human cholesterol
[cholesterol critical to testosterone]

Phytosterols disturb normal functioning
-body REJECTS vast majority of these
plant-based chemicals
-highest does of these from veggie oil
-body allows only 1% to be absorbed
[some people's body cannot keep these
out: called sitosterolemia:
Early Severe Atherosclerotic Disease]
-leads to early heart attacks
-due to fake plant cholesterol

Phytosterols lower your cholesterol...
-so, person eating typical diet, rich
in veggie/seed oils, suddenly switches
to saturated fat foods:
cholesterol RETURNS TO NORMAL
We have U shaped mortality curve
with cholesterol levels...
-ultra low: high mortality
-high: mortality, but not as steep
It is not saturated fat causing a rise

Mechanism proving that vitamin B12
deficiency increases cholesterol
biosynthesis: well established
-same for FOLATE [B9]
"People with high cholesterol may have
vitamin deficiency"
