Itischaracterizedbytheabsenceofatailanditsforelimbsbeinglongerthanthoseofotherprimates.Strong,longarmsandlow-positionedthumbsallowthegibbontomoveathighspeedthroughthetrees,swayingonthebranches.
Theirlivingcolorsareblack,gray,andbrown.Size,ontheotherhand,isdeterminedbywhethertheybelongtoaparticularsubspecies.Thesmallestadultgibbonisabout45cmtallandweighs4to5kg,whilethelargersubspeciesgrowup to90cmtallandweighmore.
