Insight into the Jewish Sages - Gamaliel the Elder

Gamaliel was a Jewish Sage and leading authority within the Sanhedrin in the first century. He is most well-known for his public caution toward persecuting the Early Netzarim sect of the Jews and was believed to be a teacher of Rav Sha'ul (A.K.A. The Apostle Paul), but he was righteous man in his own right. Orthodox Jews who doubt his association with Rav Sha'ul might be wise to remember that Sha'ul was a zealous man for the Torah, both before and after his joining the ranks of the Netzarim and he had to have studied under someone noteworthy and legitimate.
