A car crash in Placer County, California has shocked the community after the vehicle flew into the second story of a home on April 16, 2023. According to reports, the car was speeding on a road with a speed limit of just 10 mph when it suddenly flew about 75 feet before landing on the second story of the home.

The crash occurred in the Cape Horn area of Placer County, an unincorporated part of the county in the Sierra Foothills, about 2 miles north of Colfax and an hour’s drive from the Lake Tahoe area. The California Highway Patrol reported that the driver of the car was driving "extremely fast" on the road, leading authorities to believe that drugs or alcohol could have been involved.

Thankfully, the homeowners were not present at the time of the accident and were unharmed. However, due to the structural damage caused by the crash, they had to temporarily move out of their home and stay in an RV on their property.

Firefighters from the Placer County Fire Department, including a technical rescue team, were able to stabilize the vehicle using a rope system and rescue the driver. The woman driving the car survived the crash, but she sustained major injuries and was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment.

Photos taken by Placer County Fire Department showed a massive hole in the second-story bedroom where the car landed. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, and whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

This incident serves as a reminder to all drivers to obey traffic laws and drive safely. It also highlights the importance of being prepared for unexpected events, such as having an emergency plan in place and ensuring that your home is properly insured.

We hope that the driver makes a full recovery and that the homeowners are able to return to their home soon.
