'Tragic Beijing Hospital Fire Kills Dozens of Patients' At least 29 people have been killed in a hospital fire in

Beijing.

Footage shared on social media showed people trapped in Changfeng Hospital hanging outside of windows trying to escape the blaze. One person using a tied bed sheet.

Deputy head of the Fengtai district, Li Zongrong, said among those killed included 26 patients, a nurse, a family member and a medical assistant.

Zhao Yang, deputy chief of the Beijing Fire Brigade, said the accident was caused by sparks generated from renovation work at the inpatient department.

The sparks then hit flammable material, according to

initial investigations. Authorities have said they have arrested 12 people in connection to the fire, including the head and deputy head of the hospital.
