“Rural kids are being offered a $250 cash prize for killing wild cats. But a local woman worries that her pets will also be caught in the crossfire. The annual North Canterbury hunter's competition now includes a new category for juniors. Hunters aged 14 and under must kill as many feral cats as possible between April 15 and the end of June. Last year, 900 people took part in the competition, 250 of them were juniors. But then it was necessary to hunt for opossums, ducks, hares, rabbits, rats and geese.
