This is an update to the 2019 song I wrote in memory of my step-daughter Kara, who was driving home to Ocean City on April 19, 2000, but never made it. The cross on the side of the road was removed sometime during the last year after a 22 year+ run. While the Cross on the Side of the Road is no longer there, her memory lives on in those whose lives she touched.

The Cross Redux 2023
Seven weeks short of nineteen to the day,
Jesus took her home and left our lives in disarray.
The method mattered not a bit,
Though surely, we've not forgotten it,
The way it was, was all that it could be.
The cross on the side of the road,
Marks her exit from this life.
The cross on the side of the road,
Marks the end of all her strife.
Stepping into eternity,
Her Creator waiting joyfully,
Nothing, no nothing could keep her here.
We met when she was only eight years old,
A feisty fire to melt my heart, she was something to behold.
Tough without yet sweet within,
A stainless steel clad violin,
She'd steal your heart and leave your world undone.
Chorus
It was my honor to pray with her when she was just a child,
And lead her to the place where she and Jesus reconciled.
2023:
For 20 years plus 3 it now has been,
That each & every April 19 rolled 'round yet again.
The wound is now a fading scar,
It seems so strange we've come this far,
Without her soul to grace our lives each day.
The cross on the side of the road,
Once marked her exit from this life.
The cross on the side of the road.
Once marked the end of all her strife.
Now she's living in eternity,
With her Creator - singing joyfully,
Nothing, no nothing will keep us here.
When time is full no, nothing will keep us here.
