This is the U.S. version of Gamera: The Giant Monster, the film that kicked off the Gamera franchise. This is a pretty standard Kaiju flick, but the monster was memorable enough that it would go on to be the second most popular kaiju franchise behind Godzilla. In this film, a nuclear explosion in the arctic takes up a giant fire breathing turtle, and the various governments of the world gather together to try to figure out how to stop it.

I have done a fair bit of research on this, and I do believe that this film is public domain. There is another upload of this cut of the film on Youtube, and the DVD that I recently purchased is from a company that puts out public domain flicks exclusively, and it is on other public domain DVD releases as well. The upload to Youtube is only 480p, though, and I thought you all might want something higher resolution that will look better on a modern TV.

There is a blu ray box set put out by Arrow that has all 8 Showa era Gamera flicks together, and you will get a better viewing experience with that, as well as the original Japanese cut. I would ask that you do support that release. You can find it here:

If this does not get me in a lot of trouble, I do have other public domain films on DVD that I can do this for. Oh and yes. The U.S. version really did misspell Gamera name. That's not a typo
