Man charged in front-door shooting of Black teen Ralph Yarl

On Monday, an 84-year-old white man from Kansas City, Missouri, was charged with first-degree assault for shooting a Black teenager who mistakenly entered the man’s home to pick up his younger siblings.

According to prosecuting attorney Zachary Thompson, there was a “racial component” to the incident on Thursday evening when Andrew Lester shot 16-year-old Ralph Yarl twice, the Associated Press reported.

Yarl is currently recovering at home after being discharged from the hospital. However, Thompson clarified that the charging documents do not suggest that the shooting was racially motivated.
