Canada: Federal public service union announces deadline for strike action – April 17, 2023

In Ottawa, representatives from the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) announce that if no deal is reached with the federal government by 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, April 17, a national general strike will be authorized for its members. Some 155,000 public service employees will go on strike on Wednesday, April 18 if negotiations fall through. Taking part in the news conference are Chris Aylward (national president), Sharon DeSousa (national executive vice-president), and Yvon Barrière (regional executive vice-president, Quebec).
