Pour the Water - A Lesson from the Wizard of Oz

I had an overwhelming challenge this morning and the Spirit led me to dive into scripture. After reading a few key verses, I immediately received hope and peace... and my distress melted away.

This experience brought to mind the scene in the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy poured water on the “Wicked Witch of the West” and she melted away. What a perfect visual for each of us to have in our heads whenever we face difficulties in life. The water WE pour is the power of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit.

In 2 Corinthians 3:17, Apostle Paul tells us:
“the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

In the Lord, we have the power of the Spirit and THAT POWER gives us freedom. It has the power to melt away our distress. We just have to remember to go there. It is easy to get caught up in whatever we are facing and look to worldly solutions without seeking God first. Our heavenly Father has indeed provided us solutions in this world, but they work a whole lot better if we seek Him to be with us, to guide us, to give us wisdom and strength.

We read in Isaiah 58:11,
“And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”

So the next time you face a crisis, a stressful situation, a challenge, a worry, a darkness or any distress, think of Dorothy and the power of the water she possessed. And watch that difficulty react like that old Wicked Witch of the West: “I’m melting, I’m melting!”
