[Transitional Times Poem Collection] -
One of the ways we ‘fit’ in to society is through ‘matching’ or ‘mimicking’ behaviours – and this can help us feel ‘socially acceptable’ or ‘normal’ and part of the ‘group’. It is also a means for how children learn. However, is this something we wish to do unconsciously or with more consciousness? Do we merely wish to echo another’s view? Or to research and form our own opinions?

I aspire to a belonging within groups that do not expect each and every one to express all the same views or thoughts, or to nod agreement despite ‘feeling’ otherwise or even disquiet?!!

Can we achieve this vision together? That is a question to consider and decide on.

This poem was written in August 2022 and falls in under the 'Transitional Times’ poem collection which normally contains 'a variety of Motivational and Commentary poems exploring issues of the time'.

Poem wording –

Echo No More, Think For Yourself

Taught to be uncertain and insecure
To doubt yourself, set your footing to unsure
How do we recover our own power?
Well, step along in the NOW, hour by hour.
Do not be a slave to the ‘common mind’,
Look deeper, delve in for the truth … to empower
Heed your mind, own your own thoughts
If you like ‘it’ fine, once you’ve given ‘it’ real thought.
Let all resonate at an internal level
Not just echo or reverberate, as if,
implanted from a wily devil!
