The Police Minister, General Bheki Cele, and a delegation from the South African Police Service (SAPS) have descended on two Cape Town communities following two shocking crime incidents involving women and children. The first incident occurred on Sunday, 9 April 2023, when two gunmen entered the Showers of Blessings Christian Zion Church in Taiwan, Khayelitsha. The suspects allegedly robbed the congregation, sexually assaulted two women, and fled with cell phones and money. The second incident involved the brutal murder of a three-year-old boy in Kraaifontein on Sunday morning. A 50-year-old man, who is related to the toddler, is in police custody for allegedly hacking the child to death with an axe. The SAPS delegation will visit the Blue Hall in Khayelitsha at 11:00 to meet with members of the community affected by the church incident.
