Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was evacuated safely after an explosive was allegedly thrown at him during a visit to Saikazaki port in Wakayama prefecture.

The explosion occurred just before Kishida was about to begin his speech in support of his party's candidate for a local election. No injuries were reported, and Kishida was taken to Wakayama prefectural police headquarters.

A man believed to be the suspect was arrested at the scene. This comes nine months after former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated while giving a campaign speech, leading to reinforced security measures for Japan's politicians.
