'Sudan Conflict: Army and Paramilitary Battle for Control Kills Civilians'

At least 56 civilians have been killed and nearly 600 people, including soldiers and civilians, were wounded in Khartoum as the Sudanese military battles for control.

Residents have reported the sounds of air strikes and gun fire they have been hearing in their homes.

Tensions had been brewing between the country's army and its once partner now turned rival, Rapid Support Forces (RFS) paramilitary group before the clash began on Saturday. The two groups partnered up to remove President Omar al-Bashir in 2019 but didn't want a joint military-civilian government as originally planned in 2021.

The conflict has left the capital city in smoke and houses and airports ruined.
