The MAN who won the Medal of Honor, without taking a single LIFE.
Desmond Doss was a United States Army corporal who served during World War II. He was also a devout Seventh-day Adventist and a conscientious objector, which meant he refused to carry a weapon or ki11 an enemy combatant. Despite facing ridicule and opposition from his fellow soldiers, Doss remained steadfast in his beliefs and insisted on being allowed to serve as a medic.
In Guam and the Philippines, Desmond Doss was awarded two Bronze Star Medals for aiding wounded soldiers under fire. During the Battle of Okinawa, his unit came under heavy enemy fire. Despite the danger, Doss refused to take cover and worked tirelessly to treat and evacuate the wounded. He saved up to 100 wounded infantrymen on Hacksaw Ridge, and was wounded four times himself, with shrapnel embedded in his body. Doss continued to serve with courage and dedication throughout the battle, eventually earning the respect and admiration of his fellow soldiers.
He was eventually awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions, becoming the first conscientious objector to receive the award.
