Today we are in Lesson-01 in the series “Living Hope” from the book of I Peter.

This study is part I of our new series: “Strangers and Pilgrims” covering both I and II Peter.

The lesson is titled “Living as God’s Elect – Part I” and our focus passage is I Peter 1:1-12.

Please find your way in your Bible to that passage.

In our previous episode, we had our introductory lesson to the study of I Peter.

The Apostle Peter wrote the I & II Peter epistles to Christians scattered throughout the world and who were predominantly of Gentile background.

In today’s lesson we begin in earnest our study of I Peter. As I mentioned a moment ago, we will  focus on chapter 1 of I Peter.

Peter is going to use terms that were originally used to describe God’s covenant relationship with Israel.

And he is going to apply those terms to this new people of God, the Jews and Gentiles together in the Church.

Because as Paul states in Ephesians (cf. Eph 2:11-15), they are now one people:

So as we begin our study we will pay special attention to that covenant language present in both I and II Peter.

Because as believers, we are now in a new covenant with God through Jesus Christ (cf. Jer. 31:31-34; Luke 22:19-20). Jews and Gentiles, one people of God in Christ.

Let’s get started.
