Macron's visit to China exposes divisions in Europe's China policy

French President Emmanuel Macron has come under fire following his recent trip to China, during which he spoke favourably about Beijing's position on Taiwan.
Macron claimed that Europe should not be "caught up in crises that are not ours" and instead should build up its "autonomy". The president's comments have been seen as an attempt to divide Europe and the United States.
Macron's remarks have been criticised by the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China and some European lawmakers.
