What You Need to Know About Florida’s Heartbeat Protection Act

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis just made a huge move in the fight to defend unborn babies in the Sunshine State.

DeSantis signed a bill that makes the Heartbeat Protection Act, also known as SB 300, which essentially bans abortions after six weeks, when a heartbeat can be detected.

The bill also bans doctors from prescribing abortion pills through telephone health services, and it bans the purchase of abortion pills through the mail. And it will provide more funding to Pregnancy Resource Centers.

Of course, while pro-lifers in Florida and around the country are rejoicing at this news, those on the extreme abortion side are losing their minds. As you can guess, the Abortion Distortion machine is in high gear. The radical Left and Planned Parenthood have been very good at galvanizing the right groups – suburban moms and others who would otherwise be pro-life – to take action against these bans, using the same old story that pro-life laws and leaders are coming to take away their rights and wrestle away control over their bodies.

The radical Left wants this story front and center. They want women to feel like they’re being attacked or having their rights stripped away. Aside from being dishonest, these arguments from the pro-abortion Left never seem to bring up the rights of the unborn children, roughly half of which will also be women one day (if they’re allowed to be born, that is.) Defending women by aborting future women seems like a curious strategy at best, but that’s the way extreme abortion zealots think.

The implementation of this law rests on the results of a case already pending before the Florida Supreme Court. The state Supreme Court is still considering the original 15-week abortion ban that Governor DeSantis signed last summer. As we reported, the ACLJ filed an amicus brief at the Florida Supreme Court supporting this bill. If it upholds that ban, then this new six-week bill will go into effect as well. If they choose to throw it out or rule that it’s too broad and/or restrictive, it won’t bode well for this six-week bill either.

Today’s full Sekulow broadcast includes more analysis of this monumental new heartbeat bill in Florida that could save countless unborn babies. We also discuss how such a gutsy move could affect the Florida Governor’s White House chances. We’re also joined by ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy Ric Grenell.
