Sea Life Aquarium LEGOLAND

Overcast and cold day in San Diego so we spent the day in the Sea Life Aquarium at LEGOLAND California.

I wanted to add a quick note about Ryan's echolalia. You may have noticed that he repeats what he hears.
Echolalia is a common symptom of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It is the repetition of words, phrases, or sentences that have been heard previously. Echolalia can be immediate, meaning that it occurs right after the person hears the words, or delayed, meaning that it occurs some time later.

Echolalia can serve a variety of purposes for adults with ASD. It can be a way to communicate, to learn, to self-soothe, or to simply fill silence. In some cases, echolalia can be disruptive or embarrassing, but it is important to remember that it is not a sign of intelligence or communication ability.

There are a number of strategies that can be used to help adults with ASD manage echolalia. These include:
- Using visual supports
- Teaching alternative communication methods
- Ignoring the echolalia
- Providing positive reinforcement for non-echolalic speech

Ryan is an adult with Autism. He has a hard time leaving the house to participate in community activities. I thought that a way to get him out and into the community would be to start a Youtube channel for him.

He loves watching videos! It’s been fun making these videos and Ryan is enjoying getting out and about and seeing himself on Youtube.
