Shiveluch, one of the largest volcanoes in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, erupted on Tuesday, emitting ash for days. Alaska Airlines canceled a number of flights on Thursday, April 13, due to an ash cloud that drifted from Russia following the eruption of the Shiveluch volcano. The National Weather Service office in Juneau released satellite imagery showing ash, visible as a pink line, moving east over the Annette Island area. Credit: NOAA via Storyful
