How To Lose Weight
In a conversation with Dr. Carson Chow, an MIT-trained physicist and mathematician, it is explained that the rule of losing one pound of weight by burning 3,500 calories is wrong. To understand the real math behind losing weight, Dr. Chow uses the analogy of a leaky bucket, where the leak represents the rate at which energy is burned and the water added at the top represents the energy consumed. The more water added to the bucket, the faster it will leak. Similarly, the larger the body, the more energy it burns. The new rule for weight loss is for every 10 calories you eat less, you will eventually lose one pound, but the process is slow and can take three or more years. Rapid weight loss is not sustainable as it can lead to gaining the weight back in the long run.
