It is a crucial step towards recovery and onward motion because it enables the person to let go of any resentments or malice they might have had against other people. By extending forgiveness to others, the person releases the weight of bitterness and welcomes uplifting energy into their life.

The prayer acknowledges that there is evil in the universe and that there are forces that are beyond human control while denouncing Satan and all of his deeds. It expresses a person's will to withstand temptation and conform to the Lord's predetermined will. By pleading with the Lord to protect the person with His grace, the prayer also asks that they be shielded against demonic assaults.

The person then completely surrenders to the Lord, receiving Jesus as their Lord and Savior and invites Him into their lives. This is a critical action for spiritual development and personal change. In order for the person to become their best self, the prayer requests the Lord to strengthen, alter, and heal their body, soul, and spirit.

The mother of Jesus, Mary, St. Peregrine, a patron saint of cancer patients, and all the angels and saints are invoked in the prayer's closing to make an intercessory plea on the person's behalf. This is a show of humility since it acknowledges that nobody can overcome difficulty on their own and that supernatural assistance is necessary. It is a potent act of faith that calls on all of heaven to support the person on their path to enlightenment.
