Get Out, 2017 Summery

Chris Washington is a black photographer from Brooklyn, New York. He is getting ready to spend the weekend in Upstate New York, where his white girlfriend, Rose Armitage, lives, to meet her family. He isn't sure about their mixed-race relationship, so he asks Rose if her family knows. She tells him that they aren't racist. While they are there, Rose's brother Jeremy and their parents, neurosurgeon Dean and hypnotherapist Missy, say disturbing things about black people, and the black maid Georgina and groundskeeper Walter act in strange ways.

One night, Missy puts pressure on Chris to go to hypnotherapy to stop smoking. In a trance, he says that when he was a child, his mother was killed in a hit-and-run accident and that he feels guilty for her death because he didn't call for help soon enough. Then he goes into an empty space that Missy calls the "Sunken Place." When he wakes up the next morning, he thinks it was all a dream, but Walter tells him that they did talk briefly the night before. But he is happy to find out that the hypnosis worked because he no longer wants to smoke.
