Nero is known as one of Rome's most infamous rulers, notorious for his cruelty, debauchery and madness.

His turbulent rule saw momentous events including the Great Fire of Rome, Boudicca's rebellion in Britain, the execution of his own mother and first wife, grand projects and extravagant excesses.

Nero's story is explored and re-examined in the British Museum's latest exhibition Nero: the man behind the myth (27 May – 24 October). Join acclaimed author, historian and broadcaster Bettany Hughes as she interviews curators Thorsten Opper and Francesca Bologna about the key themes, objects and research behind the exhibition.

This event will be introduced by Stéphane Verger, Director of the Museo Nazionale Romano.
