How Long Does It Take To Start a Business?
In this portion of the guide on gathering industry data, you're going to learn what impacts how long it takes to start a business. We'll cover subjects including:
1. Time for home-based business vs rent and remodel vs Buy and Build
2. How the products or services you buy and sell impact the time to start a business.
3. How special business licenses impact business startup time.
4. The amount of time you should assume if you have to get an education before starting your business.
5. Time to gain experience with the industry (and how to get around it).
6. Financing and how it impacts startup time.
7. Where to find information on how long it takes to get into the industry and meet licensing requirements.
8. How to add the data to the spreadsheet.
Here are the rules of thumb I provided in the video.
Most home-based ones can be accomplished in a month or less.
Ones that require a business location 3-6 months as long as you are renting.
Construction, financial institutions, and ones that require an education can be years.
By education level:
Certification: 3 months to 1 year
Associate: 2-4 years
Bachelors: 4-6 years
Masters:4-6 years
Doctorate/PhD: 10-12 years.
