National Weather Service says Fort Lauderdale rainfall is a “1-in-1000 year event”

Ana Torres-Vazquez, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Miami office, said the amount of rain Fort Lauderdale, Florida received in 24 hours was a “1-in-1000” year event. Fort Lauderdale experienced almost a foot of rain within a few hours of torrential downpours Wednesday, with 600 people seeking shelter at emergency locations.
