As AI technology continues to advance and becomes more prevalent in our daily lives, experts are calling on European officials to expand their regulations of the technology in the European Union's AI Act. The group of more than 50 signatories is advocating for Europe to include general-purpose Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) in its forthcoming regulations, rather than limiting the regulations to a more narrow definition. They believe that regulation should be considered regarding how AI is developed, including how data has been collected, who was involved in the collection and training of the technology, and more. The EU AI Act is poised to become the first omnibus regulation for artificial intelligence, and it could become a global precedent. Therefore, it's critical that the legislation fields this category of AI well, as it could become the template that others are following.
